Creating a hanger for a small-to-medium-sized potted plant from pantyhose and a small length of rope is a quick, easy way to ensure your plant has excellent air circulation and drainage while it grows. This plant hanger may look a little odd, but the stretchy and porous nature of the pantyhose works as well as any expensive sling you could buy in a gardening center.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Lay the two pairs of pantyhose on the floor. Tie the crotches together in a firm knot, and spread out the legs to form an "X".

  2. Step 2

Place the plant on top of the knot. Pull all of the legs up over the plant and knot them together at the ankles.

  3. Step 3

Hold the pantyhose taunt and tie the nylon rope tightly around the plant and the pantyhose, about an inch from the top or right below the lip of the pot. The rope keeps the pantyhose in place and offers some extra stability.

  4. Step 4

Hang the plant from a hook or post outside.

Tips & Warnings
  • For best results, use new pantyhose for this project. The fibers tend to deteriorate more quickly in previously worn and washed pantyhose, making them less able to support the weight of a hanging plant.
  • This method may not work as well with heavy plants. Test the strength of your plant hanger before hanging it to ensure it can support the weight of your potted plant.
