Things You'll Need:
- Degree in early childhood development
-
Step 1
Seek employment as a teacher's assistant working in a preschool. You will get on the job training that will help you decide if you really want to pursue this occupation. Most schools will hire inexperienced assistants, only requiring a police background check and others will require a CDA certificate.
-
Step 2
Become a preschool teacher by obtaining a degree in early childhood and continuing to actually work in the classroom, by conveniently taking classes online. Another option would be a university or college. Courses are often focused on studies in child development, classroom management, curriculum methods and parent-child relations.
-
Step 3
Gain the knowledge needed to prepare these young children with "school readiness" skills. Children learn through play and interactive activities, as well as math, language, vocabulary development and social skills.
-
Step 4
Earn the satisfaction and fulfillment of teaching young children to learn problem solving and build their self esteem. Although the pay is minimal, the results are priceless.
-
Step 5
Work as a preschool teacher in daycare/learning centers, private or public preschools or Head Start centers.
