Web browsers bookmarks or favorites can be exported and used on another computer.

Computer users save bookmarks or favorites for websites that they visit frequently or plan to visit again. The number of bookmarks depends on the user; it can be just a few bookmarks or hundreds. When you get a new computer you may want to copy your bookmarks to the new computer so you don't have to recreate them all individually. If your Web browser of choice is Mozilla Firefox, you can easily transfer those bookmarks instead having to navigate to the websites and save them over again.

Instructions

  1. Use Bookmarks Manager to Export

      Launch Firefox and click on the "Firefox" menu in the top left corner.

      Select "Bookmarks" from the menu and select "Show All Bookmarks" from the cascading menu.

      Select "All Bookmarks" in the navigation menu on the left.

      Select the "Import and Backup" menu and choose "Export Bookmarks to HTML."

      Name the file in the File Name field and choose the location where you want the export file to save. Click Save."

    Import Bookmarks

      Copy the file to a flash drive and move it to your new computer. You can also attach the file to an email, email it to yourself and download it on your new computer.

      Launch Firefox on your new PC. Select "Bookmarks" from the menu and select "Show All Bookmarks" from the cascading menu.

      Choose "Import Bookmarks from HTML."

      Navigate to the file that you created from your other computer and click "Open" to import the bookmarks.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is also a Firefox add-on (extension) called Foxmarks that will synchronize your bookmarks across multiple computers. All you need to do is download and install Foxmarks on all the computers you use and follow the directions in the Installation Wizard (see Resources).
