How to Become a Female Boxer

The popularity of female boxing has increased in the last few years as more women take to fighting opponents as part of an organized sport. While women have been an established part of various sports for years, boxing is relatively new. More and more women are entering the ring themselves each year and learning how to become a female boxer.

Instructions

    • 1

Get in shape. The most important aspect of becoming a female boxer is being in shape. Having muscles to fight with and the ability to move quickly and avoid punches is important. Fights last several different rounds, which requires you to have endurance to make it to the end of the match.

    • 2

Learn the basics of boxing. Once you have the physical capabilities and the stamina to withstand several different rounds of boxing, you can begin learning about the sport. Many women wanting to become boxers start by taking a course at a local gym or hiring a private coach to teach and mentor them about the sport.

    • 3

Practice. It takes many hours in the gym practicing the different punches, jabs, ducks and other moves associated with boxing to truly become a professional in the sport. The more time you put in the gym practicing, the better you will become at boxing.

    • 4

Start with local matches and move up. While you may have the desire to be nationally known as a prized female boxer, it will take time for you to work your way up to that level of competition. You can begin by challenging local opponents in your city or state. Success at this level not only builds the confidence you need to fight at a national or international level, but also helps get your name out as an up and coming star.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider joining a female boxing association at the local, state, national or international level.
