How to Find a Guild in World of Warcraft

Joining a guild is one of the most entertaining and helpful parts of World of Warcraft, but learning which guilds are available and which one is right for you can be a difficult process. Although it may require a bit of research and some trial and error, when you finally join a guild that suits your playing style, you will have a much more exciting experience in the game.

Look at other players' profiles as you wander around the world. The titles listed in brackets under their name are their guild names. Keeping track of familiar guild names can help you recognize which guilds seem to be the most popular.

    • 2

Check the official Blizzard forums for your server. (Follow the link in Resources.) There will often be discussions of various guilds and open invitations, and sometimes, reviews and criticisms of some of the guilds on your server. You can also post any questions you might have about particular guilds.

    • 3

Experiment. You can always leave a guild if you don't like the other people. So if someone offers you a random guild invitation, join up and spend some time seeing how they socialize.

    • 4

Find a guild that matches your play style. If you are a casual player who just wants to find some like-minded people, look to join a smaller guild. If you want to play some of the endgame content, which requires more of a time commitment, seek out a larger guild with many players at the highest levels.

    • 5

Ask to join a guild that interests you. There's no penalty for inviting yourself. Be aware, however, that some of the older guilds actually have application procedures and trial periods, since they are just as concerned with finding compatible people as you are. Don't be put off by this seeming "exclusivity," as it usually merely denotes a group of friends who like the chemistry they've established and don't want to threaten it.

    • 6

Always be courteous and friendly. Never fall in to the trap of allowing the relative anonymity of internet communication to let your darker impulses get the better of you. It is very easy for other members of the guild to kick you out, so remember to treat other people as you want to be treated.

    • 7

Finally, remember that you can always start your own guild if you find enough people to start it with you. If you and a group of friends all want to play together, this can be a better option than looking for another group of people to take you all in.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful of incredibly large guilds. Some guilds allow anyone to join, and consequently can be chaotic and unhelpful.
