How to Find an Inmate in the Tennessee County Jail

Finding out who is in a county jail is easier than you might think. Inmate information is a matter of public record and many counties have made it easy to see who is in custody through online searches.

1. The Shelby County Sheriff's office can be reached by phone by calling 901-545-5660. Ask for the jail and be prepared to provide a first and last name of the person you think might be in jail. If you have a middle name and date of birth that might also be helpful.

2. If you're searching using the Internet, go to the Shelby County Sheriff's office Web page at Shelby-sheriff.org.

3. Scroll down the page to the Jail heading and click on the "Who's In Jail" option.

4. You can either type in the name or check the entire list of names for jail inmates.
