How to Make a Desktop Theme

Desktop themes are as unique as the individual computer user. Themes can be made up of any design you can imagine and can be created and installed with just a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

• Computer
• Background image
• Photo editing software

Instructions

1. Choose a background image that you like. It can be a personal photo, a downloaded image or any other picture of your choosing. Save it to a location on your computer that you will remember for easy retrieval later.

2. Open your photo editing software. You can use a complex image editing program if you have one or simply use the Paint program that comes with your computer. Familiarize yourself with the tools because you will need them to edit your image.

3. Open your background image in the editing program. Crop the image, add wording or import other images if you want to make a custom layered background. Use any of the options to modify the background image to your liking.

4. Save the modified image in the JPEG (.jpg) format. Close the editing program.

5. Locate the newly created image and right-click with your mouse on the file. Select the “Set Image as Background” option. This will install the image as the background on your desktop.

6. Rearrange your desktop icons if necessary. You can move them around your image and change your color settings to match the picture.
