Chicago has a long history of graphic design going back to 1937 and many graphic designers flock to this historic area. Employers in the city hire many graphic designers for both print and web projects. Web design and print design have different rules, but there's a lot of competition for design jobs and the more skills you have, the more jobs you qualify for. Here's how you can be the best applicant for graphic design jobs in Chicago.

    Get formal training. Earn a degree in visual communications with a concentration in graphic design from the University of Illinois. The Illinois Institute of Arts offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in graphic design. The Columbia College Department of Fine Arts teaches graphic designers the history, technology and principles of their profession while offering internship placement. The Ascend Chicago Facility offers graphic design workshops. The International Academy of Design and Technology-Chicago focuses on hands-on experience in graphic design.
