How to Dress for a Date for Teens

As girls and guys get older and begin to mature, they begin to have feelings for people of the opposite sex. Once this happens they most likely will begin to go on dates. Dating can be a fun experience for teens, though it can also be painful and disastrous. To learn how to enhance the experience and set yourself up for a successful date, make the effort to dress your best.

Instructions

Avoid overly revealing clothes. Dressing in revealing clothing will definitely give the person you are going out with (and anybody who sees you) the wrong impression. You may think that wearing clothes with low necks and short bottoms will make you look appealing to your date, but chances are you are sending the subliminal message that you don’t care for him personally. Wearing such clothes will make him feel uncomfortable, which can result in an awkward date.

Look like you actually care about the date by trying to look nice. Even if you don’t care about the date, you should still try to look presentable. Don’t show up looking like you just threw on whatever you found in your closet. Another way of looking too casual is to wear the same clothes as your school wardrobe. Not too fancy, but something that looks nice and isn’t your everyday attire.

Wear clothes that are complimentary of your body shape. If you are really skinny, don’t wear something that makes you look like you are even skinnier or like you are extremely fat. Wear something that will accentuate your curves. Nice scoop-neck shirts are a great bet for skinny girls. If you are a bigger girl and you have curves, then wear something that shows people that you have a nice shape. But be careful not to go crazy when showing off your figure. Less is more.

Match bold-printed tops with simple pants or skirts. If you are going on a casual date, as most teens are, wearing a short skirt and blouse, or jeans and a blouse, is the way to go. Wear a pretty, colorful top with denim or one-colored bottoms. If you wear a bright, busy top with equally bright, busy bottoms, it will look very overwhelming for your date. If you do want contrast in your clothes, wear a light top with dark bottoms, or vice versa.

Accessories complete the outfit. Be very careful when selecting the accessories for the evening. They have the power to make or break your outfit. Numerous bangle bracelets of different neutral colors is a great accessory for girls. Guys should wear a nice watch. For necklaces, wear layered beads if your outfit is casual enough, or wear a thin chain with a pretty charm. Guys can get away with only one kind of necklace: polka shell.

Be comfortable in what you wear. Clothes and accessories are very important, but no matter how great they look, if you’re not comfortable in them, they won’t be appealing. Buy something with nice fabric that feels good on your skin. Also, don’t go out of your way to change your style for a guy or a girl. If you do this, chances are it won’ t look natural on you, and your date won’t like it. Be who you are and dress how you like.
