How to Sew a Hair Scrunchie
It appears that most hair accessories never go out of style. This is a good thing. It means girls have more of an excuse to buy new ones. Made popular by pop culture and movies, such as Heathers, hair scrunchies are particularly favored by women of all ages. Instead of shelling out upwards of eight dollars for one at an accessories store, you can make your own.

1
Cut a piece of thick, flat elastic. Make it long enough to wrap around your wrist comfortably. Don't make it too tight or too loose. Figure that you may end up wearing your hair scrunchie on your wrist if you want to take it out on a whim.

2
Cut a piece out of the fabric of your choice. It can be made of cotton, velvet or satin. Any material you prefer is alright. It's preferable to use fabric from old clothes you will not use again. Cut a piece large enough to contain the elastic you have cut. Make sure the elastic can fit in the middle of the fabric so that it rests about 2 to 3 inches away from all sides.

3
Tie the elastic to make a bracelet that is not too tight or too loose on your wrist. Make sure the knot is secure. You may also opt the sew the ends together.
-
4
Place your fabric inside the elastic bracelet.
-
5
Bring the top of your fabric strip to wrap around the elastic and stick a needle through the top and bottom edge of the material to secure it around the elastic.
-
6
Sew the edges of the fabric together tightly neatly so that it contains the elastic inside. To make it more aesthetic, sew it so that the top edge rests over the bottom edge like a velcro clasp. Make it as tight as you'd like, but you want to make sure it looks "scrunched" around the elastic.

7
Knot your thread when you are finished sewing the fabric around your elastic and cut the edge off.

Tips & Warnings
You may opt to use a sewing machine instead of a needle and thread.
Don't leave sewing materials around. This can pose a danger, especially if you have children in the house.
