Things You'll Need:
- Acetone or nail polish remover with acetone
- Hot water
- Goof-Off type product
- White rags
-
Step 1
Gather your rags and various paint removing solutions. Different types of paint require different solutions, and the degree of dryness of the paint can affect the solution for paint removal as well. Be prepared to use each of the solutions listed to ensure you get the paint off the wallpaper.
-
Step 2
Pour a small amount of paint-removing solution of your choice on a clean white rag. Make sure you use a white rag, as dyes from colored rags can leave stains.
-
Step 3
Gently blot the solution on the paint spot. Regardless of whether you use hot water or another solution, always blot. Avoid rubbing, as you could smear the paint and cause further damage, such as rubbing paint into the grain of the wallpaper.
-
Step 4
Be prepared to use a second, third or even fourth choice of paint removing solution. If your first choice doesn't work, don't be discouraged. Simply move on to another solution. Some paints will dissolve easily in hot water, others will need something more aggressive, such as acetone or a Goof-Off type of remover.
-
Step 5
Wipe down the spot with a barely damp white rag. Once you have removed the spot, wipe the area down with a moist white rag. This will clean off any excess remover solution from the wallpaper.
