Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- A List From the Teacher that your child has been assigned to.
- A Back Pack
- A Lunch Box
- A Little Memento the child can wear on their shirt, necklace, or carry in their pocket.
Step1
Parents preparing your child for school whether it is Kindergarten or First Grade, will be a lot easier if you have the material things ready on their first day. You have been mentally preparing yourself for this for 5 or 6 years. Do not let your child see you get teary eyed. This will upset them also.
Step2
When you register your child for school you will be allowed to visit the teacher. The teacher will have a list of school supplies that your child will need during the year. It is advisable to have these things the first day.
Step3
Since the first day is always the hardest not only on the child but on the parent also, my advise is to take your child to their room. This will allow you to show them their desk (which most teachers have their names on their desk on the first day).
Step4
Taking their items they have been instructed to bring in will be difficult and having a parent help them carry the items will keep them from dropping them constantly and eventually getting upset and frustrated.
Step5
Help the child arrange their items so when the teacher asks for them they can easily access them and put them where the teacher wants them. Always mark these items with the child's name so these items will be marked off the teacher's list for your child.
Step6
When you are ready to leave (and make sure you leave before the bell rings) give the child a small object to put in their pocket or wear pinned on their shirt or even a necklace. This object has to be small and something only you and your child have shared. I gave my daughters a necklace with a letter to wear with their new dress with the initial of their first name. Remind them when you are leaving if they want to think about mom or dad they have the trinket and it will save all their hugs and kisses for mom and dad until they get home.
Step7
Now Mom or Dad get out of the school room before the bell rings. Once you are outside make sure you bring plenty of tissue because when you get in that car male or female you will have some tears to shed.
Step8
Don't worry Mom and Dad they will be very excited when they get home and make you feel better.
