Create Your Own Candle Favors

Favors at weddings and parties are popular, but can be quite expensive. Most times, guests do not take the favor or forget and the party givers are left with bags of extra favors! Candles are something that mostly everyone uses and are simple and elegant for any party and/or wedding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Favorite scented or un-scented votive or tea light candle (can be monogrammed if so desired or have a print)
  • Ribbon (can be plain or personalized with name and date of occasion)
  • Satin or see-through pouch to hold candle(match event colors, if desired)
  1. Step 1

Purchase the style/type of candle you want to use. There are plenty of websites, and in some areas, local stores, that sell all types of candles in bulk for less! Monogram if desired. Personally, I would choose a neutral color, like white, ivory or beige, instead of wedding colors.

  2. Step 2

Purchase pouches and ribbon. Monogram if desired. If candles will be used during reception, pouches may be purchased and set in a basket or on a side table for guests to grab and take home as they leave, but this is not necessary. It is just an extra touch.

  3. Step 3

Tie ribbon around the candle or pouch with your name(s) and date of event.

  4. Step 4

Depending on the size of your event will depend on how long this will take. Usually, you can get all done in just an hour or two for an event of 100 guests.

  5. Step 5

Remember, favors are not 1 per person, it is usually 1 per couple or less. Don't over do candles on each table; you don't want them to be the center of attention. If you have 100 guests, that means approximately 50 couples (give or take singles and children), ordering 3 or 4 per table (if there are 10 seated to a table) should be more than enough! Don't overdo on favors! Most will forget to take them!

  6. Step 6

Sit back and look at your gorgeous creation! Your guests are sure to love them!

Tips & Warnings
  • If a pouch is not used, the candles can be lit during the party/wedding.
  • Have someone advise guests that candles can be taken as a favor.
  • Advise of pouches for take home, if necessary.
  • http://www.candles4less.com/ has a nice selection of candles and holders in bulk (I am not associated with this company in any way).
  • Always place candles on a tray of some sort to avoid burning, if they do not already come in glass or tray.
  • Make sure other objects are kept away from candles.
  • Be watchful of children and burning candles.
  • Some scented candles are overpowering. Choose a light scent.
