Creating a plaster foot print is a great way to capture a moment in time. Your child will never be that age or size again and it is fun to look back and see how much they have grown. It also makes for a great Mother's Day or Father's Day gift. Even Grandparents have been known to treasure a keepsake like this. As an added bonus this craft is messy and kids just love that.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the cardboard box half way full with damp sand. Don't make it too dry or too wet or your foot print mold won't stay.

    • 2

Carefully step down in to the sand and make a foot print. Have someone help you back out of the box so you don't move to the left or right which would ruin the print. If you get it wrong the first time that is OK. Just smooth the sand back out and try again.

    • 3

Use the bucket to mix the plaster and water. You need 2 cups Plaster of Paris mix and 1/4 cup water. If you are making more than one foot print you will need to multiply those numbers by how many feet you want to make. Mix the plaster and water with a stick from outside.

    • 4

Pour the plaster in to the foot mold. Make sure you let it dry overnight.

    • 5

Crumble the sand around the foot mold to set it free.

    • 6

Paint the foot. Make it look like your foot in real life. If you have toe nail polish on then paint toe nail polish on the foot. On the back side of the foot paint your name and the date so you can remember this age forever. Set the foot out to dry.

Wrap it up and give it away as a present.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have a towel handy because your foot is going to need some brushing off after you put it in the sand.

  • Wear a smock or apron to protect your clothes from getting ruined.

  • Lay out newspaper on your work areas to protect the surfaces from getting ruined.
