Instructions

    • 1

Cut the plywood into the size you want your pot to be. Nail the sides and bottom, drilling a one inch hole in the center of the bottom to allow for drainage. Build another box that will be placed inside the larger box to form the inner wall. Also, drill an identical drainage hole and be certain to allow a space of two inches in between to form the walls.

    • 2

Insert the plastic pipe into the hole of the larger form and spread the prepared concrete mix evenly at the bottom. Apply a coating of oil over the entire outer walls of the inner form. Place the form directly over the pipe and into the outer box.

    • 3

Pour the concrete mixture into the space completely around the walls, tamping carefully to prevent air pockets.

    • 4

Wait at least 24 hours before removing the mold. Allow the concrete planter to remain damp, by loosely wrapping it with plastic. This should be left to cure for five to seven days before planting.

    • 5

Use the forms to make more concrete planters or create other shapes and sizes. Design unusual pots by using large strong containers. A waste basket filled with sand or rocks, placed in the outer form, would certainly be an original design.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add a special dye to the concrete mix before pouring into the mold.

  • Always coat the walls of the inner mold with oil for easy release.

  • Clean thoroughly after each use.
