It's hard enough to get a guy to like you in real life, but how do you go about it on MySpace? It actually may be easier, since you don't have to deal with rejection face-to-face. Here are a few tips for starting a relationship on this popular social-networking site.

1. Before you begin conversing with a guy on MySpace, update your profile. Add your best picture and clean up your bio. You may even want to scan the comments your friends have left and delete any that the new guy may find offensive.

2. 

   When deciding if you would like to get to know a guy on MySpace, keep on mind that it may be safer and more convenient if he's someone you know in real life. That'll make it easier to arrange an in-person date. (Then again, it could also be fun to meet someone from another town.)

3. Ask the boy you are interested in to add you as a friend on MySpace. This is a great way to get an "in" with him without seeming pushy. After all, he can always refuse your friendship and you can move on to the next MySpace guy.

4. After the guy has accepted you as a friend on his MySpace account, you can send him a comment. Search the internet for a graphic that contains a "Hi" or "Hello." Send something fun but simple. Do not pick a comment with roses, hearts or anything else romantic that might scare him off.

5. Once you receive a comment back from the guy, send him a text comment. Try to strike up more of a conversation. Ask how he is doing, or mention that he looks cute in his profile picture. You can also comment on a picture in his gallery, especially if it depicts him participating in an activity you both enjoy. For instance, if he has pictures of him and his buddies on a float trip, leave a comment about how much fun you had when you floated on the same river.

6. After you've left a few comments and he has reciprocated, send him a message. Tell him you find him attractive and have enjoyed chatting back and forth on MySpace, but that you would like to get to know him better. Ask him for his phone number and ask if it's O.K. if you give him a call. End the message on a cheerful note, perhaps with the sign-off "Hope to hear from you soon."

Tips & Warnings

• Be playful in your comments, but don't spout "I love you" right off the bat.

• Leaving multiple comments or messages on the MySpace page of someone who does not comment or message back is rude, and may even be considered stalking. If the guy you are into is not into you, move on and find a new guy.

• If you're planning an in-person meeting with someone you know only from the internet, never go alone. Meet him in a public place, such as a shopping mall, and bring your friends along, just in case. At least tell your friends or parents where you are going, who you are supposed to meet and what time you expect to be back.
