Take your gold jewelry to a local pawn shop to see what you are offered. Pawn shops generally weigh your gold and will offer you a price based upon the current wholesale value of the precious metal. This will probably be much lower than the item is worth as jewelry, but it is immediate access to cash that may be worthwhile in the case of broken or damaged jewelry. Cash America has close to a dozen pawn shops in Austin, Texas, and Action Pawn also has a number of locations. Or if you prefer to skip the franchise pawn shops, you can call Top Cash Pawn at (512) 836-8505.

Find out how much local jewelry stores will offer to pay you for your gold jewelry. Sometimes they will only offer to sell the item on consignment, which means that you leave the jewelry in their store, and if it gets sold they will collect a commission. Other times, if they feel that the item has a good resale value, they will offer to buy your gold jewelry outright. It all depends on the preference of the particular store, so be prepared to visit more than one. There are many fine jewelers located in Austin, Texas. A few to start your search with are Calvin's Fine Jewelers at (512) 794-1911, Whitefire Jewelry at (512) 231-8502 and Benold's Jewelers at (512) 452-6491.

Take out a classified ad in the local newspaper. Advertising in newspaper classifieds, especially in the Sunday edition of the newspaper, is an excellent way to let people in the local area know that you have gold jewelry for sale. You should, however, exercise common sense in how you approach dealing with the public. Both the "Austin Chronicle" and the "Austin American Statesmen" have sections in their classifieds for people to post items for sale.

Sell your gold jewelry to a precious metals merchant in Austin, Texas. Although these types of business routinely deal with gold coins and bullion, they are also quite happy to take any gold jewelry as well. As long as it is gold, they will make you a fair offer. The problem is that the offer will be based upon the current melt value of the gold, so it may be best to reserve these places for broken or damaged jewelry that cannot be sold anywhere else. A few good business to call are Abercrombie Gems & Precious Metals at (512) 328-7530, the American Gold Exchange at (512) 323-0199 and Austin Brokers at (512) 345-5125.

Thanks for that post. I've carried out lots of investigation and purchasing and I'd like to add a suggestion. I've had the greatest luck using the money for Gold Exchange. They spend a great deal more than anybody I've discovered plus they publish the costs they spend for gold (and silver) on the reside chart correct on their web site and there is also a lot of advantages to sell your jewelery there you can find out more here -

Also keep in mind that 1 oz of 14k=.5833 actual oz of pure gold, 1 oz 18k=.75 oz of pure, so 1 oz of 14k gold is worth approximately $583/oz if spot gold is at $1000/oz. And this does not account for processing (refining) costs, so expect much less. -
