Step 1
Choose your Hong Kong tailor carefully. Be sure you are dealing with a reputable suit maker and not someone who just opened up for business. Ask for recommendations and study their websites. W.W. Chan & Sons is well-known and reasonably priced. A link to their website is below.
-
Step 2
Make an appointment. If you have only a short time in Hong Kong, be sure the tailors make you a priority. Schedule an appointment through their website at least 2 weeks before you arrive in Hong Kong.
-
Step 3
Allow at least 3 days to get your suits made. That's from the moment you walk into their store until you walk out with your new custom-made suits. If you have only a few days in Hong Kong, make the tailor your first stop. Be sure to wear your current best-fitting suit. They will use it as a guide when they measure you.
-
Step 4
Plan to spend at least 1 hour at the tailor on your first visit. They will measure every part of you and ask you all sorts of questions. They will offer you options you never knew you had in a suit. Everything from how spacious you like your armholes to how much you hunch your shoulders. You need to choose fabrics, labels, buttons, cuffs and dozens of other things.
-
Step 5
Schedule your Hong Kong business and sightseeing around your fittings. You will need to return to the tailor at least three more times. A few hours after you are measured they will have a pattern for you to try on. In a day or two they will have most of the suit ready. You need to be fitted so they can fine-tune the custom fit. You may have one more fitting on day 3 a few hours before your suit is ready to pick up.

Step 6
Wear your custom-made suit home. If you have your suits mailed home, you may have to pay customs duty. If you wear them home or have them in your luggage, they are considered used clothes.
