How to Create a Chore Chart
Chore charts are very beneficial in teaching your children about responsibility. You can give them a chance to accomplish things and even reward them for their hard work as well. It is also a lot easier than constantly bugging your children to do their chores and then losing track of who is supposed to do what. Your child should be at least two to three years old at the youngest in order to understand the chore chart. Here are some steps that will help you create the perfect chore chart for your family.
Things You'll Need
- Poster board
- Marker
- Ruler (optional)
- Laminator (optional)
- Laminating sheets
- Tape or sticky tack

1
Choose the chores you want to be done by your children. Make sure you have enough chores listed so your children can choose what they want to do. List quite a few extra chores so they have a variety of chores to choose from. Be sure you choose chores that fall in your children's age ranges. You won't see results with chores your child cannot even do properly.

2
Create your chart. Once you have a list of the chores to put on the chart, you can create it. Using your marker, and a ruler if needed, make seven lines for the days of the week. Leave enough space at the top to write the chores out in columns.

Let your children look at the chores and choose the ones they want to do. The number of chores they have to perform a day or week is up to you. If they attend school you might only assign a couple chores after school. If it is during the summer you might let them have up to five chores a day/week, depending on their age.

Label the index cards with the names of your children. Make quite a few for each child if they have more than one chore. Once they are labeled, use the laminating sheets to laminate the index cards so you can reuse them on the chore chart. If possible you might laminate the posterboard as well once you have finished drawing your chart on it.

5
Choose an easy location to hang the chore chart. You want to make sure your chore chart is in an easily visible place for all children. Hang the chore chart on the wall with tape or sticky tack.

6
Apply tape or sticky tack to the back of the index cards and put them on the chart. Start with Monday and put each child on the column of the chore(s) they chose to do for that day. If you have enough cards go ahead and fill up the week. Over the weekend have your children choose different chores for the following week.

Tips & Warnings
Add a column for rewards and give your children a list of different rewards they can choose from when they choose their chores. Then you can write the rewards down on an index card as well and stick it on the reward column.
