How to Make Liquid Heishi Silver Jewelry

Liquid heishi silver jewelry is beautiful, easy to make and fun to wear. Whether you are interested in designing your own jewelry, or you just want to know how necklaces are made, the process is simple. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase your liquid silver heishi beads. These beads are very small and will usually be sold in quantities of around 100 pieces or more. Sterling silver heishi beads will last the longest, but you can also find them in plated silver and other materials. You will need to purchase numerous beads to make one necklace. One strand can have as many as 1000 beads, so it is vital to make sure that you have enough on hand before you get started.

    • 2

Prepare your jewelry wire. Liquid silver heishi jewelry is made by stringing beads onto jewelry wire. You can find this wire at most craft stores. Ideally, you should find the most flexible wire possible so that your multiple strands will lay flat against the wearer's neck. With the right jewelry wire you will not need to use a beading needle to make this type of jewelry.

    • 3

Attach one end of your clasp. Once you have your wire, you will need to attach one end of a clasp to it. This is done by using what is called a crimp bead. Place the crimp bead on the wire and slide it down about two inches. Thread the wire through one end of the clasp and slide the crimp bead up over that wire until it is approximately 1/4 of an inch from the clasp. Crimp the bead using a crimping tool or jewelry pliers.

    • 4

Add your liquid silver heishi beads. This next step will require the most patience. Place your beads into a bowl where they will be easy to access. It is best to use a weighted bowl so that they will not tip over. Take your jewelry wire in one hand and use the other to add beads. If you have difficulty managing the small beads, you may need to use a beading needle to slide them onto the wire. Keep adding beads until you have two inches left on the wire.

    • 5

Attach the second part of the clasp. Follow the same instructions in step three to attach the second part of your clasp to your necklace. If you want to make a multiple strand liquid simply repeat all of the steps above until you have the desired amount of strands.
