How to Win the Highway Bike Race in Chrono Trigger

The futuristic bike race mini-game in "Chrono Trigger" can be extremely frustrating on the first few attempts, as the way to win is not immediately clear. The hover bike can use three boosts of speed during the race, and using them effectively is the key to highway bike race victory.

Things You'll Need

• "Chrono Trigger" game (SNES or PS1 Version)

Instructions

1. Play through the first portion of the game until Chrono, Lucca and Marle are fleeing from the castle guards and take the unidentified portal to the year 2300.

2. 

   Find the plant seed in the basement of the Arris Dome after defeating the "Guardian" robot and give it to the old man who leads the people of that Dome. He will give the party a "Bike Key" in exchange.

3. 

   Leave the Arris Dome and travel to the ruins called "Lab 32."

4. 

   Use the Bike Key on the hover bike located there and then speak with the robot named Johnny who will challenge you to a race. Accept his challenge.

5. Move up and down the screen once the race has started, going to the opposite side of the highway that Johnny moves to so that you are both moving in circles around each other. Make sure to save at least one boost for the end the race, as it is nearly impossible to win without it.

6. 

   Use the boost ability when your miniature bike at the bottom of the screen is almost at the finish line. Since Johnny has no boosts, you will race past him and win the race. You will need to time it just right so that you are close enough that the boost will send you over the finish line before ending, as Johnny always gets a slight lead as soon as your boost ends.

Tips & Warnings

• Although you get three boosts to use during the race, you only need to use one at the very end to win.

• Don't let Johnny hit your bike while he sways from side to side, as this will slow your bike down.
