How to Sell Old Gold Jewelry
If you’re trying to garner the worth of pieces of old gold jewelry you no longer wear, the pawnshop should be the last place to consider. For something as valuable as gold, you should educate yourself about how much your gold is worth, before you hand it over for a price you may regret.

1
Decide what to sell and what to keep. If you believe that a piece of jewelry will possess greater worth being passed on to a descendant, do not feel pressured to sell it.
-
2
Check the karat grade on each piece. The law requires that all gold jewelry has its grade stamped on the piece. For bracelets, necklaces and other clasped pieces, the grade is usually printed on one of the clasp pieces. For rings, the grade may be on the inner side of the ring. Grades may be listed in karats (a number with “K” at the end) or in fineness (three-digit number), depending on the country of origin. In any case, the number will be in tiny print, so your magnifying glass should come in handy.

3
Find an accredited jeweler or independent goldsmith. Since they have a reputation in excellence to uphold, they are less likely to cheat you on a good rate. In fact, they may even offer to buy it from you themselves.
-
4
Obtain a quote for the worth of your jewelry. If you don’t like the sound of the first quote or are still not sure, it never hurts to get a second opinion.
-
5
Sell your jewelry to a jeweler, especially if you have visited many and one of them has given you an unbeatable quote. Person-to-person interaction is ideal when selling something of such worth.
