Ever put new line on your open face reel and have the first few cast end in a bird nest.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New spool of line
  1. Step 1

First we must understand why do we get those bird nest in the first place. It's simple really. With today's monofilament lines they have a memory. That is they will take the shape of whatever they are on. Large spools, large coils, small spool small coils.

  2. Step 2

Since line is shipped on large spools. When we transfer on to our smaller reel spool and cast, the lines peel off in large coils. These coils become tangled making a birds nest.

  3. Step 3

To Avoid this bird nest, simply wet your new spooled line with warm water and let dry at least 30 minutes before casting. When the line dries it's memory will become of small coils and you will avoid the bird nest.

Tips & Warnings
  • Only fill spool to within 1/8" to spool lip.
  • do not use hot water only warm water.
