If you are a person who wants to organize electronic files in your computer all the time, it is no surprise that you want the same with your e-mail files as well. If you get plenty of emails everyday and barely had the time to manually organize them into folders within your email account, there is an alternative. By using the email service from Windows Live Hotmail, you can enjoy this feature. You only need to set up folder categories to direct emails to the appropriate folders and next time emails come in to your account, they will be automatically sorted. Here are the steps:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Hotmail e-mail account
  1. Step 1

Access your Hotmail e-mail account and login using your ID and password. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up for a free one at www.hotmail.com. After successful registration, login to your account.

  2. Step 2

Once you are logged in successfully, check your inbox for e-mail messages. You will see that there are a number of e-mails from certain senders and these are the emails you would like to be sorted out automatically next time. You will need to create folders to be used as a target location for these e-mail messages. To create new folder, click “New” on the top-left corner of the screen and choose “Folder…” option. Name your folder the way you want it.

  3. Step 3

Click “Options” found on the right-hand corner of your email account window. A drop-down menu will be displayed. Click “More options…” You will be directed to another window.

  4. Step 4

Under the “Customize your mail” heading, there are choices given how to customize your e-mails. Click “Automatically sort e-mail into folders” option.

  5. Step 5

You will now create one or more filters to automatically put messages into certain folders as they arrive. To create a new filter, click the “New filter” button. Configure the settings by following the instructions in creating/editing the filter. Click “Save” button to save the changes made.

  6. Step 6

If you want to create more filters, repeat step 5 until you are done.

  7. Step 7

Go back to your inbox to continue reading your e-mail messages or sign out. The filters you created will apply the next time the contacts your configured will send you e-mail messages. Those e-mails will be stored directly into the customized folders you created instead of crowding your inbox.
