How to Remove Rust on a Medicine Cabinet

If you have a metal medicine cabinet in your bathroom you will undoubtedly have problems at one time or another with rust. Between the moisture in the air from all of your showers and the water that gets splashed on your medicine cabinet when you are washing you face or brushing you teeth it is going to happen. Your best defense is to attack the rust as soon as it appears. If you wait too long the rust will eat through the medicine cabinet and you will have no choice but to replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Start by cutting a potato in half.

    • 2

Sprinkle baking soda directly on the cut potato.

    • 3

Rub the potato and baking soda on the medicine cabinet with vigor. Continue to scrub until all the rust is gone, or the surface of your potato has become so rusty that it is counter productive to continue to use it.

    • 4

Cut the rusty portion off the potato and sprinkle the baking soda on once more. Start scrubbing.

    • 5

Once the medicine cabinet is free from rust, go over the metal portions of the cabinet with a dry towel and remove all of the moisture.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have a clean cabinet now is the time to think about repainting it with rustoleum or another rust-proofing product.
