How to Create a Letterhead
A letterhead can set you apart from the crowd whether you are looking for a job, making a proposal, or marketing to clients. A well-developed, creative and cohesive look can be achieved when a letterhead is used. Since you can use a letterhead on any kind of paper, it is a very inexpensive way to create a look, individualize your correspondence and grab your reader’s attention. Creating letterhead and printing is easy and takes very little time.

1
Conceptualize your letterhead. Do you want to have a very simple but stately design? Do you want to say a lot about your business? Look at letterheads you receive in the mail. Write a list of the things you do and don’t like about them. Use those lists to determine what you want included in your letterhead, and prioritize the list.

2
Create logos and art. Many of the most memorable letterheads have a company logo on them. If you or your company do not have a logo, commission a local artist to create one. Many computer programs make it easy for you to create your own logo--even if you aren’t an artist! For personal letterhead, you may just want to use a decorative monogram as your art.

3
Add a slogan. Just as a logo will be memorable, a slogan tells the recipient of your letter a little bit about you or your company’s philosophy. A high impact, short slogan can sum up your business or personal beliefs, commitments and approach in a quick, effective manner.
-
4
Determine what information to include. Most letterheads include the phone number of the person or company who printed them. Others include other information such as address, hours and a contact name.
-
5
Create your letterhead. Programs like Word, Photoshop and Publisher will help you create various parts of your letterhead. Simple designs may even be created in Word alone. Once you have completed the design, load it into Word and save it as a template. Make sure you do some test printing to ensure the proper look!
