One of the ways to add that personal touch is to decorate the walls in a way that gives it the signature that announces the owner’s personality. Aside from wall hangings or wallpaper borders, there is a treatment that can be to the finish of the drywall installed. This particular drywall treatment is called Skip Trowel. Have plenty of joint compound on hand. Gather a think nap roller and a drywall knife. You’re now ready to start.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Joint Compound
    • 10 inch Drywall Knife
    • Thick-Nap Roller Cover
    • Drop Cloths
      • 1

Prepare the wall by making certain it is clean from all dirt or oils. Let it dry. Set drop cloths along the base of the wall as this can be messy. Next, be certain that there is plenty of joint compound to do the entire job.

      • 2

Add enough water to the joint compound to have a thick consistency. Add a few cups to one bucket. Mix thoroughly to allow for rolling it on the wall with a thick nap roller.

      • 3

Apply all the mixture as soon as possible to keep from loosing the integrity of the mixture. Roll mixture on the wall with the thick nap roller.

      • 4

Before rolled on mixture dries, gently run the drywall knife across the wall. Keep drywall knife at an angle of about 45 degrees.

      • 5

Work the mixture with the knife going both ways. This will give the added texture desired. Another method is to ‘skip’ the knife is several directions for a random pattern.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Always wear safety glasses.

    • Be certain to only apply the amount of the mixture that can be ‘skipped’ before it dries.

    • If using a dry mixture of joint compound, wear a respirator to protect your lungs.

    • Use caution when applying pressure on the knife. Too much pressure will remove the mixture from the wall.
