How to Do Olympic Wrestling Moves
The sprawl is a basic technique used to stop takedown attempts. You will see this technique a lot in both wrestling and MMA. In future walkthroughs I will outline how to perform other techniques found in olympic wrestling.

1
As your opponent shoots in for a takedown, thrust your legs behind you, dropping all of your weight onto his body. Getting your legs as far back as possible is essential, as that is what will prevent your opponent from reaching your legs and taking you down.
-
2
Your hands can be placed in either of two positions, described in the next two steps.

3
You may put your palms on the back of his shoulders, using your arms to push him down further when you drop your weight.
-
4
In the event that he is shooting in for a double leg, you can use your arms to underhook him; this will give you more control over your opponent while in the sprawl.
-
5
Regardless of which method you use, keep your weight on top of him. Your opponent typically will not stop driving forward simply because you sprawled.
-
6
If you opted to drop your hands on his shoulders, while keeping your weight on him, circle to one side--this is getting your legs completely out of his way. Once you have circled behind him, you may launch an offensive of your own.
