Step 1
Own a crisp, white button down shirt. It is great for a casual or professional setting. Some people have trouble keeping their button-downs wrinkle free, especially after driving or taking the train or bus to an interview. There is an answer to this problem. Companies such as Brooks Brothers make no-iron, wrinkle-free button-downs for both men an women.

Step 2
Be aware of where you are interviewing. Is the company's style more casual or professional? Do some research on the company so you know what their atmosphere is likely to be.
-
Step 3
Wear a suit for men or a skirt or pant suit for women if the atmosphere is professional. A nice suit is a good investment. Do not wear any shockingly colored or patterned suits. You want to look classy, smart and professional. Black or grey are reasonable options. You can choose whether to wear a blazer or not, but make sure your shirt is tucked in neatly. If you decide to wear a skirt suit, nude tights/pantyhose are a good classic choice, with a black pair of pumps which you should already have in your closet.
-
Step 4
Wear the same as above in a more casual environment, but spice it up with some fun accessories. Wear a patterned pump instead of a solid color, add bold accessories such as a handbag or jewelry for a shot of color. If your interview is in an even more casual environment than this, a nice dark pair of jeans (still paired with your white button-down) and a cute pair of heels would be appropriate.

Step 5
Wear your hair out of your face. If you have long hair and wear it down, make sure it is not a distraction. Otherwise wear it back in a ponytail. For men, make sure your hair is nice and trimmed.

Step 6
Be comfortable and confident in how you look because that will translate into how you feel.
