How to Sew Flowers From Fabric

Fabric flowers are great for giving as gifts for Mother's Day, making hair pieces for a wedding party or even decorating a tote bag or purse. Here's how to make them.

Things You'll Need

• 3 coordinating colors of fabric
• Scissors
• Button or bead
• Thread
• Needle
• Brooch back, safety pin or hairpin (optional)

Instructions

1. Take the three coordinating fabrics, lay them on top of each and pin in the middle of the fabric to hold the layers together.

2. Cutting through all three layers at once, cut out a flower shape.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 twice cutting smaller flower shapes each time.

4. Stack the three stacks of fabric together creating nine layers altogether.

5. Loosely hold the center of the stack of fabric pieces and turn to separate each layer. This creates the flower.

6. Sew the flower together in the middle to secure the layers.

7. Add a matching button or bead to the center of the flower and sew it into place.

8. Attach a pin to the back of the flower either by gluing or sewing it in place.

Tips & Warnings

• You can make your flower all one color.

• Add more layers if you want a larger flower.

• Use different fabrics such as organza, silk, rayon or cotton.
