Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
-
Step 1
Determine if you need pull ups or traditional adult diapers. Typically, the pull up kind is used for adults that simply have incontinence issues. They still use the restroom, but use a pull up diaper for accidents or leaking.
-
Step 2
Measure the adult around the waist. Most adult diapers are sized based on the width of the waist. Typically, the smallest diaper will have a waist size of about 20 inches and the largest adult diaper will have a waist size of about 63 inches.
-
Step 3
Check to see if the adult diapers have a wetness indicator feature. Changing adults' diapers is hard enough without pressing down on the diaper to see if it is wet. The wetness indicator can give the adult a bit of privacy back because the caretaker can simply look on the outside of the diaper to see if it needs changed.
-
Step 4
Make sure the adult diapers have elastic tabs and legs. This provides extra comfort for the person wearing them. It also prevents leaking, which can be humiliating.

on 8/7/2008 Check out the sizing on the package and request a sample if possible if it's from an online store. Homedeliverymedical.com will send samples if you request them. It may take several types before you find what is most comfortable.
