Want to manage two PC's at home then you will need to install a home network.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two or more PC's
  • A Router
  • RJ-45 Cable (Straight through)
  1. Step 1

You will need to make sure that your computers are connected to the router and the router is turned on.

  2. Step 2

Now you will want your computers to "talk" to each, especially if the two computers are sharing a printer. To do this you want to go into the start menu and select the control panel.

  3. Step 3

Once the control panel is open, you will want to select the network setup wizard. This application makes setting up a network easier. When the wizard is started, click the next button twice.

  4. Step 4

After you have clicked the next button twice you will get to the Select a Connection Method, since you are connecting two or more computers, make sure that the second choice is checked, and continue on.

  5. Step 5

After this you will need to name you computer. Note: Keep it simple. something like "Office" will work.

  6. Step 6

Now that you have you computer named, now you have to create a workgroup name. For me it was my first name. But this workgroup name has to be done on both computers. Now click the next buton.

  7. Step 7

Since you most likely want to share a printer make sure that the file and printer sharing button is checked. and the click the next button.

  8. Step 8

Click the next button again, and we are almost done.

  9. Step 9

Now you have the choice of creating a Network disk. Truthfully I never do but if you are running 5 or more computers on one network then I DO recommend it. Now you are done and your network is almost. Repeat the steps above on the others computers and your network is set up.
