on 5/11/2009 Saline lavage is one of the best kept secrets I know of for aleviating allergies and maintaining good sinus health. I've been doing it once or twice daily for a long time now. Forcing large amounts of liquid up your nostrils seems counter-intuitive. Isn't that kind of like water-boarding? Won't it make me feel like I'm drowning? Not at all - because your head is facing forward and tilted down, the saline flows freely from the other nostril and down the back of your throat. It's amazingly cleansing and refreshing, especially if you suffer from chronic allergies and sinus problems as I do. Suggestion: Distilled water warmed in the microwave to just below body temperature helps make my lavage experience comfortable and effective.
