Control / kill Aphids on your Roses
Control / kill Aphids on your Roses

So you have Aphids on your Roses. Here are a few simple ways to control them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    DISH SOAP & SPRAYER
Get you garden sprayer or you can use any sprayer , like a windex sprayer ( clean it out well before using it.)

In a large garden sprayer mix 6 table spoons of any common dish soap to a gallon of water, mix it around gentley, try avoid making it all foamy.

In the small spray bottle , fill it with water & ad 1 table spoon of dish soap.

Spray it all over the rose bush , top to bottom. Not sure if this kills them or just make the rose bush taste soapy & the aphids don't like it. I have cleared out loads of aphids this way

    Repete as needed

  2. Step 2

Diatomaceous Earth ( Get it at a swimming pool supply store it cheaper there)
Give a light but complete dusting to the whole rose bush. paying attention to the areas that have lots of aphids.
Diatomaceous Earth dries up the aphids & they DIE.

Diatomaceous Earth is safe , non-toxic ,Natutral way to kill any gargen pest that has a exoskeleton (external skeleton ). Like Fleas , Roaches Ticks , Ants ect...

  3. Step 3

    EUCALYPYUS OIL

Mix 4 TABLE SPOONS of Eucalyptus oil wioth 1 gallon of water

Eucalyptus oil/ water mix can be sprayed directly onto roses , it will not kill them ,But it will keep them off your roses.

    Repete as needed

Tips & Warnings
  • All of these methods will get rid of or kill the Aphids for a while . You will need to repete this every few weeks or so. As the mixtures get washed off your roses, you will need to reaply.
  • HAPPY GARDENING

on 6/15/2009 I find that I MUST respond to the info given here about Diatomaceous Earth. It is mentioned in step 2 to use DE bought at a "swimming pool" store because it is cheaper. That may be true, BUT that is the WRONG kind of DE to use in the garden! You must use FOOD GRADE or HORTICULTURAL GRADE to control pests. (swimming pool type has particles that are TOO larger to be any good) FYI.
