Things You'll Need:
- violin
-
Step 1
Use a soft cloth such as an old t-shirt or a cloth you can buy at a music store to wipe off your instrument after each use. This will get rid of any rosin left on your instrument.
-
Step 2
Do not let anyone else play your instrument. The only people that may handle your instrument is your violin teacher or someone else that knows how to hold the instrument.
-
Step 3
Wash your hands before you use your instrument.
-
Step 4
Be bareful not to bump your instrument, even when in the case, against hard things.
-
Step 5
Do not turn your pegs or try to tune your instrument before you are taught. Also, do not allow your parents to tune it unless they have been taught how to tune your violin. Strings can break VERY easily.
-
Step 6
Do not leave your instrument in very hot or very cold places. For example, do not leave it in the car. This will melt the glue and warp the wood. Think of the instrument as your baby. Would you leave a baby in the car?
-
Step 7
If you instrument's sound post or bridge falls, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Take it to a music store or your teacher if they are able to fix instruments.
-
Step 8
If you are not using your instrument, put it in it's case. This will keep safe from pets and little brothers and sisters.
-
Step 9
Do not leave your shoulder rest on your instrument when you put it in its case.
