Love summer and swimming, but not the effect on your hair? Protecting your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine is possible with a few relatively simple steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Non-cholorineated water
  • Swimming cap (optional)
  • Spray on hair conditioner (optional)
  1. Step 1

Before you jump into any pool, always saturate your hair with water from a shower or hose. By saturating you hair BEFORE jumping into the pool, you are allowing the dry hair to fully absorb fresh water. The chlorinated water of the pool cannot penetrate as well when your hair is already saturated with fresh water. Think of your hair like a sponge, you want to fill it will non-chlorinated water so that it cannot absorb the chlorinated water.

  2. Step 2

Along with saturating your hair with water before your pool plunge, you can also spray with conditioner to further prevent damage. There are many good spray on conditioners at your local drugstore or Target.
Wearing a swimming cap (if you are a lap swimmer), will further help to keep your hair safe and unharmed from chlorine.

  3. Step 3

Rinse your hair as soon as you step out of the pool. Reapply hair conditioning spray to hydrate your locks.
