How to take good care of old family members, the Filipino way
Most Filipinos take good care of their old family members personally in their own homes. They never take the old people to the nursing homes. They themselves will give personal care to them until they will rest in peace.

The sons and daughters of the old person will decide of where to keep him. Most often in the eldest of the youngest daughter's house.

They will take turns of taking care of their old. They have a daily schedule to be there to watch and feed bath and everything.

They will sacrifice to absent from their work just to be there when it is really necessary for their old folks to be attended.

Some have private nurses to attend to the needs of their old and sick family members but they themselves are always there to give comfort, encouragement and support.

Most Old people are never left unattended if they have family members near them. Even if they are far away, the adult children would always find ways to take care of their old parents.

I wish the American culture would do this more. I don't think we care for our elders as well as we should. Some changes in attitudes may occur as the boomer generation ages. I hope so. -

This is a commendable family structure. Many people dread nursing homes. Sometimes they are the only option if the family is scattered and far away.
