Keep your workout clothes clean!

The martial arts are a great way to exercise and get in shape, but you also get very sweaty in the process. Read on for tips on how to clean your martial arts uniform.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • laundry detergent
  • prewash spray
  • scented color-safe bleach
  • fabric softener sheets
  • martial arts uniform
  1. Step 1

Add laundry detergent and color-safe bleach to the washing machine and fill with warm water (cold if there are blood stains). Do not add the clothes to the washer yet; you need to dissolve the laundry detergent and bleach first.

  2. Step 2

Pretreat any blood or sweat stains. Turn the jacket inside out to protect patches.

  3. Step 3

Put your martial arts uniform in the washing machine.

  4. Step 4

Use the automatic soak mode if you have it; otherwise, set it to the wash cycle and stop it after it has agitated for a few minutes.

  5. Step 5

Let it soak for several hours so that the laundry detergent and bleach have time to work on the stains and smell. It will also take care of that dingy gray color.

  6. Step 6

After a few hours, restart the washer on a heavy duty wash cycle.

  7. Step 7

Before drying, check to be sure that any stains have come out (although some people take pride in having a few blood stains...). Tumble dry with a couple of fabric softener sheets.

  8. Step 8

Special note: never, ever wash your martial arts belt or sparring gear! If absolutely necessary, spot clean with water and a little soap.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be kind to your fellow students: wash your martial arts uniform at least once a week or more often, if needed!
  • Never leave sweaty workout clothes in your gym bag; they could mildew.
