It's important to have a good sense of balance particularly as you get older. Having a sharp sense of balance can help to prevent falls and allow you to be more steady and sure on your feet. A good sense of balance can also help improve your skills in certain sports. Here's how to do exercises to improve balance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice standing on one leg with your arms at rest.

  2. Step 2

Try to stay in this position for as long as possible, gradually working up to three minutes. When this becomes easy trying add a hand weight to each hand to make balancing more difficult or swing your arms back and forth so you'll need to readjust to maintain balance.

  3. Step 3

Practice standing on one foot while you're waiting in line at the grocery store or when you're in line at the bank. This simple exercise for improving balance should become easier with practice.

  4. Step 4

Here's another exercise to improve balance. Practice walking by positioning your heel immediately in front of the toes of your other foot. Keep walking heel to toe in a straight line for as long as you can.

  5. Step 5

You can also improve balance by taking a class in ballet, yoga, or martial arts.

on 8/4/2008 It's not until a person try balancing that they realize they do not have it. I never thought balancing was a problem as I do workout, then I went on vacation to a spa and took yoga. Well, I learned that I could not balance a little bit! I've been doing those things ever since to improve my balancing act. Great tips! Thanks.
