Things You'll Need:
- A healthy respect for fire
- Certainty that you are skilled enough to dance with fire
- Your fire gear (ie. poi, staff, fans, finger, hoop, whip, rope, etc..)
- Fuel you are educated about
- Spin out can for excess fuel
- Fire blanket
- Fire Extinguisher
- Trained safety person
- Lighter (it's hard to dance with fire when you have nothing to create a flame!)
- Fire resistant clothing
- A mental map of your environment
-
Step 1
Make sure you are ready to dance with fire (see 'How to Know You're Ready to Fire Dance').
-
Step 2
Make sure you have everything you need:
-A fire safety person whose sole purpose is to keep you & the audience safe (see 'How to Be a Fire Safety for a Fire Show').
-Gear that you have checked thoroughly for loose or worn parts.
-A metal spin out bucket for excess fuel.
-Fuel that is not only safely contained in an ammo can or some other sort of sealing container, but is completely understood by you (see 'How to Choose Fuel for a Fire Performance').
-A fire blanket made of Duvetyne or a slightly damp bathroom towel without holes or fraying.
-Fire resistant clothing (see 'How to Know What to Wear for a Fire Performance').
-A lighter to get the fire started.
-A mental map of your performance area. Are there low hanging trees, piles of dry debris, confined spaces, pot holes, puddles of water fuel might float on, drunken bystanders who could spill your fuel, etc..
-A first aid kit.
-An emergency plan....just in case. You should know what to do in the event of a burn, in the event of a fuel spill and where the nearest hospital is. -
Step 3
Since you have made safety a priority in advance, you can now fire dance to your hearts content knowing that all you need to think about is what your next move will be. Remember to have fun!!
