Learn how to find words quickly in a word search puzzle

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Printable word search puzzles from the Internet or word search book
  • Pen
  1. Step 1

First, search for all the words that have repeating letters in them. These words will stand out in a wordsearch puzzle because it is easy to spot two identical letters side-by-side. These words will stand out.

  2. Step 2

Next, search for the words with uncommon letters in them. The letters Q, X, Y, Z, and W tend to stand out because they're not used as often as other letters. As a result, there will probably be fewer of these letters in the puzzle.

  3. Step 3

Now find the longer words. Words with many letters are usually easier to spot than short words. Your mind canbe searching for patterns in the beginning, middle, or end of a long word. Short three or four letter words don't give you as many letter patterns and, as a result, they "hide" better in the puzzle.

  4. Step 4

Finally, you should have narrowed your list down to a few short words. Search the puzzle line-by-line until you find the first letter of the words. When you spot the first leter, look all around (up, down, left, right, diagonal) for the second, third, and fourth letter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't start by searching for the words in order if you're looking to complete a puzzle quickly. Follow the steps in the order above-- begin with drepeating letters, then words with unusual letters, then long words, then short ones.
