How to Make a Styrofoam Octopus

Styrofoam octopi look very cool if done right. Follow this guide to make an easy styrofoam octopus.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Indelible markers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Paint brushes
  • Acrylic paint
  • Googly eyes
  • 8 popsickle sticks or tongue depressors
  • Some styrofoam paint or spray paint
  • Styrofoam ball
Step1
Use spray paint to paint the styrofoam ball.
Step2
Color eight popsicle sticks or tongue depressors with marker or paint. Draw circles on one side of each to represent suction cups.
Step3
Poke the popsicle sticks into the base of the styrofoam ball to act as tentacles. Space them apart evenly. You may need to use hot glue to make them stay.
Step4
Add details. You can paint on eyes or use googly eyes. You can also add a mouth or nose. Mr. Potato head pieces should work.

Tips & Warnings

  • The styrofoam pieces may be unsuitable for children under the age of three.
  • Some spray paint will strongly dissolve styrofoam. Use paint made for foam.
  • Always be careful with spray paint
