If your child hates to do homework then its definately time for you as a parent to step. Stubborn kids not only drain the teachers but they drain thier parents as well. Hopefully these tips will make the school year go more smoothly.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

One reason kids may be so hesitant to do their is homework is because they don't understand it and the parents don't get involved. When the parent do get involved they probably scream and yell and call their child dumb when they struggle with questions. This not only makes the child don't want to do homework, it makes them feel dumb as well

  2. Step 2

If every time you came home you got verbally abused eventually you wouldn't want to come home. Our kids go threw this during the school year. If you see your child doesn't understand don't yell at them. Parent always on the go is another reason your child doesn't do their homework. If you are always out late at night who is checking your child work. When the child feels like the parent is involved then they are more willing to change. Children should learn to work then play. The first thing they should do when they walk in the door is do their homework. Don't let them go outside to play and then tell them to do their homework later on when the child is tired.

  3. Step 3

If you don't understand their homework then maybe you should seek out study guides to help you understand their homework. How can you check their answers if you don't understand it yourself. If you don't have time have a mentor work with your child so they can grasp the information. Come up with a reward system reward your child at the end of the week if they finish all of their homework. My son was motivated my money so I paid him for completing all his work. Maker sure you check their homework every day. Its amazing how much better the work gets if your child knows your going to check it.

on 8/2/2008 You're absolutely correct about the parent being involved; going up to the school and meeting the teachers who will be interacting with our children. As a parent I feel it is mandatory .. Nice article.
