Instructions

    • 1

Pick the area of your yard that you would like to grow your very own sunflower house. The size is up to you, but be sure that it will be large enough to grow a considerable size house. If you have a sunny area that will fit a 12-by-12-foot sunflower house, that is ideal. If not, you can go smaller. Remember to pick a sunny spot!

    • 2

Choose the type of sunflowers that you would like to use for your sunflower house. Taller ones that grow about eight feet tall or higher work very well. Remember, the taller the better!

    • 3

Dig your trenches in the area where you would like to grow your sunflower house. The trenches should be the dimensions of your sunflower house and approximately one inch deep.

    • 4

Plant your sunflower seeds along the insides of the trenches about eight to nine inches apart and re-cover with the soil lying along the trenches. Leave about three feet of one of the trench walls unseeded. This will be your doorway.

    • 5

Water your sunflower house daily, always making sure that the area is never allowed to get too dry. You can spritz it with a garden house or use a sprinkler.

    • 6

Enjoy the growth of the sunflowers and when they are tall enough, you can relax inside of the stem walls! You can even place some lawn furniture inside to sit or lay on while you are enjoying their beauty!

Tips & Warnings

  • At the end of the summer, collect as many sunflower seeds as you can from your sunflowers. You can wrap the seeds in paper towel and place them in a jar to be stored in a cool, dark area. They can be used again the following year to create another sunflower house!
