Instructions

    • 1

Take skis indoors to warm up. While waiting for skis to come to room temperature, use vises to hold ski in place, rubber band the brakes out of the way, and wipe off any excess dirt.

    • 2

Use a lighter to set P-tex on fire. P-tex is the same material that the base of your ski is made from, which makes it good for repairs. It comes in a candle form. A small, blue flame should burn at the end of the P-tex.

    • 3

Hold P-tex about 2 inches above hole with flame close to base. Drip the P-tex into the hole. Fill the hole so that the P-tex goes above the base.

    • 4

Press your hand against the metal scraper over the P-tex until it cools to room temperature. This will take about 15 to 30 minutes.

    • 5

Scrape the P-tex from tip to tail. Keep the metal scraper at a 45-degree angle to the base.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for any other scratches and grooves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't scrape to hard or the P-tex may rip out of the base. Medium pressure is ideal.

  • Be sure to clean the scratch well, so that dirt is not permanently stuck in your ski base.

  • Scrape the P-tex to the same level as the base to make sure your ski glides properly.

  • A proper waxing is a good idea once you are done.

  • P-tex can burn you. Metal scrapers can cut you. Be careful.
