I know this sounds unusual, but try it. My grandmother gave us mounds of Wonder bread with it but I've upgraded my kids to a great big chunk of French bread.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ¼ C vegetable oil
  • 2 8oz cans tomato sauce
  • 3-4 small hot peppers, bottled
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • grated lemon rind
  1. Step 1

Place oil in saucepan and heat while preparing the remaining.

  2. Step 2

Mash the hot peppers as much as you can with either a mortar & pestle or bowl. Add the tomato sauce. Squeeze ½ lemon into mix and then grate some lemon rind.

  3. Step 3

By now the oil will be HOT so take the saucepan over to the sink. Stand back and quickly pour the tomato mix into pan. It should sizzle a spurt for best taste results.

  4. Step 4

Serve in a bowl. Enjoy by dipping into it with French bread and eat.

Tips & Warnings
  • No Spoon needed here - just use your bread as the scoop.
  • IF YOU HIT A HOT BITE- CUT THE HEAT WITH A DRINK OF MILK.

on 8/21/2008 Delicious idea. I agree with momofour, this would be good over black-eyed peas and rice, or other legume dishes.

on 8/1/2008 That does sound good! I bet it would be good over black-eyed peas and rice for a spicy alternative to hop-n-john!
