Child labor product are commonly for sale in United States. Here is how you can avoid buying the and contributing to this form of slavery.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Child labor is an ugly fact across much of the non western world that robs children of their youth and health. Children as young as six years of age are forced to weave hand made carpets and operate looms, and perform repetitive motion labor such as gluing on a particular part of a shoe or toy that they will never play with.
Step2
One way you can avoid child labor on items such as food is to look for the fair trade label. If a product is fair trade certified you can be reasonable sure that a fair wage was paid to workers and that child labor was not used. It can be more difficult with items such as toys, rugs, and clothes.
Step3
One way to avoid buying carpets made using child slave labor is to look for the Rugmark label. Rugmark is an organization that certifies that carpets are not made with any form of child labor.
For other products the Anti Slavery Society publishes a consumer alert list of product which are known to use child slave labor. You can find that consumer alert list at the Anti Slavery Societies website below.
