It is simple to roast a bell pepper. Read this article to learn how to cut, seed, and roast a bell pepper for your summertime recipes!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Any color bell pepper
  • bakeing sheet
  • oven
  • large bowl filled with water and ice
  • knife
  • tongs
  • spoon
  • cutting board/butcher block
  1. Step 1

First, rinse and clean the pepper. Set the pepper upright on a cutting board or butcher block and cut it in half. Scrape the seeds out of the halves with a spoon and trim away the inner white parts of the pepper with a knife.

  2. Step 2

Put the halves, skin side up, on a baking sheet and with the palm of your hand, smash it flat.

  3. Step 3

Put into the oven on the broil setting. Turn the light on so that you can see when the pepper turns black on the outside. Once it is charred (black all over), remove it from the oven.

  4. Step 4

Immediately place the peppers, using your tongs, into a bowl of ice water. This is called blanching. It stops the cooking process. Leave them there for about 30 seconds and then take them out and pat dry.

  5. Step 5

Now you get to peel away all the charred skin or the blackness from the pepper. Once this is done, you have a delicious roasted pepper.

  6. Step 6

Slice it to your desired thickness and add to salads, omelettes, nachos, fahitas and more!

Tips & Warnings
  • Peppers will be hot when they come off the broiler so make sure to handle them with caution!!
