Finding yourself on the bottom, in the guard position, and your opponent is attempting to break the hold and stand up. Here is a good sweep to counter their move.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grappling area
  • Willing participant
  1. Step 1

You're on the ground, on the bottom, in the guard position. Your opponent breaks the hold and stands up. Grab your opponents most forward foot. Post your foot on the hip of your opponent. At the same time, place a hook above the backside of the knee of the other leg.

  2. Step 2

Grab (if possible) the arm closest to you of your opponent. Giving it a slight tug if at all possible.

  3. Step 3

Now for the sweep...at the same time you will push on the hip, pull at the knee and go for the sweep. If done correctly, your opponent is now on the ground next to you.
