Get Ink Out of a Carpet

Did the dog chew your ballpoint pen and leave ink on the carpet? Perhaps you stepped on the ink pen and now you have a mess. How do you get ink out of a carpet?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Most stains can be removed if they are still wet. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. Ink, however, can be removed with a simple household product, rubbing alcohol. The best is 90%, but 70% can work too.

  2. Step 2

Put the rubbing alcohol on a clean white cloth and dab the area. Do not rub. Let sit for a few minutes and then vacuum with a wet and dry shop vacuum. Repeat. You may have to repeat a number of times, but never rub the stain!

  3. Step 3

When no more stain is on the cloth and it looks like the stain is gone, apply some water to the area and then use the shop vac again.

  4. Step 4

Finally, put a paper towel over the area to remove the last of the wetness. This also prevents any ink below the fibers moving to the surface.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't pour the alcohol on the stain. Use the white cloth and blot.
  • Shop vac works the best to remove the ink.
